Growing up a stone's throw from one of the world's great music cities, Detroit, had a major impact on his musical sensibilities. By the time he was in high school, Skinner had committed himself to the art of audio and became a cornerstone in his local music scene. He later attended Music Industry Arts at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario where he studied under legendary music producer Jack Richardson.
In 1992, Skinner joined the staff at CBC Radio in Toronto and began a thirty-year career recording some of the biggest names in music. Over his career as a Music Producer / Recording Engineer he has been responsible for thousands of recording projects for an endless list of both Canadian and International artists.

Building on his experience as a recording engineer and producer, Skinner opened Heading North Mastering in 2000, changing the name to Mastering By Ron Skinner in 2020.
