About Ron Skinner

Growing up a stone's throw from one of the world's great music cities, Detroit, had a major impact on his musical sensibilities. By the time he was in high school, Skinner had committed himself to the art of audio and became a cornerstone in his local music scene. He later attended Music Industry Arts at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario where he studied under legendary music producer Jack Richardson.

In 1992, Skinner joined the staff at CBC Radio in Toronto and began a thirty-year career recording some of the biggest names in music. Over his career as a Music Producer / Recording Engineer he has been responsible for thousands of recording projects for an endless list of both Canadian and International artists.

A short list of some of the highlights include: The Cure, Radiohead, The Sam Roberts Band, The Pretenders, Mavis Staples, Feist, Mychael Danna, Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris, Bahamas, Daniel Lanois, Half Moon Run, Blue Rodeo, k.d. lang, Pee Wee Ellis and Maceo Parker, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings, BADBADNOTGOOD, Allison Russell, Sufjan Stevens, Arkells.

Building on his experience as a recording engineer and producer, Skinner opened Heading North Mastering in 2000, changing the name to Mastering By Ron Skinner in 2020.

Ron Skinner has mastered hundreds of projects in a wide range of musical styles and genres and will bring all of this knowledge and experience to your project.

Other Pursuits

Ron Skinner is the owner of TQM Recording Co. a Canadian based label that has a focus on live-off-the-floor, acoustic recordings. Each artist has a story to tell and each recording space has a unique sound. TQM Recording Co. brings these audio stories to life through its recordings.

Ron Skinner is also the Audio Engineer/Digital Archives Manager for the historic Norman Petty Studio in Clovis, New Mexico. The Norman Petty Studio is one of the birthplaces of Rock and Roll and most famously where Buddy Holly recorded the majority of his hits. Among his many responsibilities Skinner is involved in the development of Norman Petty Studio branded audio products with Kit Plugins in Nashville and AudioScape Engineering in Florida.
